 London-based indie 111 Pictures has optioned Jeffrey Archer's novel A Prisoner of Birth and is planning an action miniseries based on the book.
[sb - rdf 1] Emmy-winning director Mikael Soloman (Band of Brothers, The Andromeda Strain) has signed on to direct the show, which will be introduced in its development stages at Mipcom this week.
Head of 111, actor Alki David (Spooks), will star as the villain in the modern-day retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo. Further casting announcements are expected soon.
"A Prisoner of Birth is ideally suited to a miniseries format," David said. "There is no doubt this will be one of the top new series for next year. We can't wait to move forward on this exciting project."
Production on A Prisoner of Birth is due to begin in London in the spring.
